Independence Court of Hyattsville Named Best Assisted Living

U.S. News & World Report Names Independence Court of Hyattsville Among Best Senior Living Communities for 2026

Independence Court of Hyattsville has been recognized by U.S. News & World Report as a 2026 Best Assisted Living Community.

Now in its fifth year, the 2026 Best Senior Living ratings from U.S. News evaluated more than 3,000 communities across the United States. Communities were assessed on several key criteria, including resident and family member satisfaction with safety, care, community management, staff, value and other essential services and amenities.

“Earning Best in Assisted Living from U.S. News & World Report, along with recognition for our Management & Staff, Caregiving, Activities & Enrichment, Feels Like Home and Food & Dining, is an incredible honor for our community. At Independence Court of Hyattsville, we are dedicated to providing compassionate, personalized care while creating a warm and engaging environment where residents feel supported and truly at home. This recognition reflects the commitment of our team and the meaningful connections we build every day,” said Marla Von Stein, Executive Director of Independence Court of Hyattsville.

U.S. News awards the designation of Best Senior Living only to those communities that meet its objective, data-driven standards, reflecting the feedback of hundreds of thousands of consumers nationwide. The highest-rated communities in each care level earned a Best Senior Living rating.

In addition to the primary ratings, Independence Court of Hyattsville was recognized for excellence in Assisted Living – Management & Staff, Assisted Living – Caregiving, Assisted Living – Activities & Enrichment, Assisted Living – Feels Like Home and Assisted Living – Food & Dining. These accolades are awarded only to communities that scored in the top 25% of evaluated communities nationwide for Caregiving, Activities & Enrichment, Management & Staff, Food and “Feels Like Home.”

“Choosing a senior living community is a significant life decision for older adults and their families. U.S. News’ Best Senior Living ratings provide a transparent, data-driven tool to help families identify the highest-quality care available,” said Ben Harder, managing editor and chief of health analysis at U.S. News. “We commend the communities that have earned this distinction, which reflects a deep commitment to resident well-being and exceptional service.”

While the Best Senior Living ratings offer a starting point for families, U.S. News encourages prospective residents, when appropriate, to consult with their health care providers or care teams to ensure a community’s specific services align with their individual clinical and wellness needs.

Independence Court of Hyattsville has become an extension of our family . The ICH family cares for my mom, under the leadership from Marla. Marla is always available to speak with me and she’s always open to suggestions to increase the quality of life for my Mom and all the seniors at Independence Court. My questions and or concerns are addressed and resolved quickly. I rely heavily on her expertise as a Director of the ICH assistant living facility. If Marla wasn’t the Director there my mom would not be living there. The facility is neat, clean, needs some updated audiovisual equipment, but the staff really cares about the well-being of my Mom and the other seniors at the facility. I have recommended this facility as a viable place for seniors to live and thrive.

My mom has been a resident for two years now and has had a great experience. I have learned a lot from the experience of the staff, and they have been very accommodating to ever-changing (and challenging) situations due to my mother's dementia.

I frequently visit an old friend who has lived at Independence Court for about 4 years now and I must say the first thing you notice when you walk in is how nice it smells. Which I can't say for every assisted living I visit. It's noticeably clean and the staff is wonderful with my wheelchair bound friend. I usually bring lunch and we sit outside on a bench admiring the grounds but he also seems to be pleasantly happy with the food in the dining room. I want to thank all of the staff who goes above and beyond keeping him cleaned up and helping him to the bathroom with care and dignity.
